Here is an instructional video about making corpses, fast and cheap.

The video is a little long, but what it shows is a cheap plastic skeleton covered with .7 mil plastic drop cloths melted with a heat gun. Colour is applied using a 2 in one stain and polyurethane.

The end result looks pretty great and on the cheap too!
